Braised red cabbage and apples
Ingredients:
-
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
-
8 cups shredded red cabbage
-
1 onion, chopped
-
2 tart apples - peeled, cored and sliced
-
2 tablespoons water
-
1 ½ teaspoons salt
-
Ground black pepper to taste
-
3 tablespoons white sugar
-
3 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
Directions:
Heat oil in a medium-size saucepan on medium heat. Then stir in the cabbage and onion, frying until wilted. Next, stir in the apple. Add the water, salt, and pepper to taste. Cover and let simmer for about 25 minutes on low heat. Then, add the vinegar and sugar into the mixture and taste for the desired sweet and sour combination. Finally, cook for another 5-6 minutes on low heat and serve!
